POLICE yesterday reported that a couple riding a bicycle in Mahaicony on the East Coast Demerara Saturday night was shot and the husband was up to late yesterday serious in the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.

According to the police, Motielall Rajkumar, 61, was towing his wife Chandroutie Rajkumar, called Shirley, 57, on a bicycle at about 19: 40 h on the Burma Access Road when they were shot.

The farmer, shot in the right side chest, was yesterday in serious condition at the hospital while his wife, wounded in the left shoulder, was treated and discharged, police said.

Police yesterday also reported that two gunmen, at about 09:20 h yesterday, robbed businesswoman Indra John, of jewellery in a hotel on Quamina Street, South Cummingsburg, Georgetown.

The 43-year old woman and another female were in a room plaiting hair when the gunmen moved in, robbed John of jewellery and escaped in a motorcar.

Police said that acting on information received, cops went to a home at Pineapple Street, East Ruimveldt, also in the city, where they found the car suspected to have been used in the robbery.

A male is in custody assisting with investigations, police said.
