Vivian Harris To Be Managed By Brooklyn Businessman Nunez

BROOKLYN --Vicious Vivian Harris has engaged the managerial services of Brooklyn businessman Jose Nunez. "I now feel I have the proper team in place as I push my way back to a world title at 140 pounds," the 27-year-old fighter originally from Guyana said. "I have a first-rate promoter in Gary Shaw, a competent trainer in Lennox Blackmoore and now I have added the boxing and general business acumen of my longtime friend, Jose Nunez..

"Now all I have to do is to concentrate on my opponents, starting with Mike Arnaoutis on July 29 on HBO's "Boxing After Dark."

"I am really excited about working with Vivian," Nunez said. "I know what Gary Shaw can do and I know how extremely talented Vivian is. Go down the list at 140 pounds, and you can start with robotic Ricky Hatton. and I think it is clear that Vivivan can beat any junior welterweight in the world. Fight fans will see the awesome boxing skills and punching power of Vivian against the very tough Arnaoutis. We're not looking past that bout but anyone who doubts our claim about Vivian being the man at 140 pounds can call me or Gary Shaw."

Harris, who stands 5-11 and has a 74-inch reach, won IBA and WBA world title recognition when he shocked Diobelys Hurtado with a two-round stoppage four years ago.

The Brooklyn-based world champ put his WBA crown on the line against Souleymayne
M'baye and won a unanimous 12-round decision. Proving that he is a road warrior, Harris then twice went to Germany to defend against Oktay Urkal. Harris beat Urkal first by a majority 12-round decision and then stopped him in 11 bruising rounds. In a shocking upset, an unfocused Harris was dethroned by Carlos Maussa on June 25, 2005.

Harris takes a 26-2-1 record with 17 KOs into the Arnaoutis bout which will take place at the Chumash Casino in Santa Ynez, California.

Nunez, who owns real estate, Top Choice Records and has other business interests, has been credited with resurrecting the ring career of another great talent, the undefeated junior lightweight Joan Guzman. Dominican Guzman, a former world champion at 1222 pounds, just made a sensational HBO pay-per-view debut with a virtuoso performance as he shut out ex-world champ Javier Jauregui over 10 rounds on the Oscar de la Hoya-Ricardo Mayorga card at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas.

"I am not a poker player but maybe I should take the game up," Nunez said. "I know I got two ring aces in Harris and Guzman. And the best is yet to come for both of these exciting fighters."
