US Coast Guard search for man missing from Bahamas cruise

Wednesday, May 17, 2006

MIAMI, USA (AFP): An air crew was searching the waters off the Bahamas islands Tuesday for a man reported missing from a cruise ship, a US Coast Guard spokeswoman said.

The 21-year-old man was reported missing from the Mariner of the Seas cruise ship Monday evening, but the Coast Guard C-130 search and rescue aircraft could only be sent to the area Tuesday morning, because of bad weather, said Gretchen Chapman.

"He was last seen by family and friends by midnight on Sunday and the cruise ship has motion sensor cameras that saw him on the bow of the boat at 2.15 (am) on the morning on Monday," she said.

A total of 24 people were listed as missing from cruise ships during the 2003-2005 three-year period, according to a report by the International Council of Cruise Lines (ICCL) presented to the US Congress earlier this year.
