PRESIDENT Bharrat Jagdeo yesterday afternoon dissolved Parliament in preparation for general and regional elections to be held by September 4 this year.

A statement from the Office of the President said Mr. Jagdeo issued the proclamations dissolving the Parliament on being advised that it had concluded its work, including approval of the amendment of Article 61 of the Constitution which extends the August 4 constitutional deadline for holding elections by one month.

The President has also dissolved, with effect from yesterday, all 10 Regional Democratic Councils, the office announced.
