GEORGETOWN, Guyana: Police in Guyana have now backed up the government's claim that the country's agriculture minister was intentionally targeted for assassination and that the demand for money was just a cover.

Police Commissioner Winston Felix had earlier stated that the police were pursuing all possible leads including robbery.

"Based on a careful study, scrutiny and analysis of the total picture surrounding the incident, it now appears that the bandits intended to eliminate all possible eye witnesses and execute the Minister and his family. A secondary motive seems to have been robbery," a police release issued late Monday confirmed.
