Natalee Holloway
Natalee Holloway remains missing.

Hardbeatnews, NEW YORK, N.Y., Thurs. Apr. 20, 2006: His name has now been made public to the world but his family is now stepping up to proclaim his innocence.

As prosecutors in Aruba zoom their attention completely on a 19-year-old suspect in the case of missing U.S. teenager Natalie Holloway, relatives of Geoffrey van Cromvoirt, referred to previously only as ‘G.V.T.’ insisted he is in no way connected to the disappearance.

The Associated Press, quoting from a statement released in Dutch by Cromvoirt’s lawyer, Eline Lotter Homan, said, "The family van Cromvoirt distances itself completely from all expressions or statements which bring Geoffrey van Cromvoirt in connection with the disappearance of Natalee Holloway and any statements in which any role is attributed to him in this case."

But Aruban prosecutors, who arrested the teen over the weekend, say he is suspected of "criminal offenses that may be related to the disappearance" of the Alabama teen, who disappeared last May.

The man now known as Cromvoirt, appeared in a closed door hearing in Aruba court yesterday but no details of the case has been released through Prosecutor, Karin Janssen, would only say after court on Tuesday, "I never smile when I'm angry."

Under Dutch law, a suspect can be held without charges for at least eight days once a judge agrees.

Holloway was last seen on May 30th in the company of Dutch teen Joran van der Sloot and Surinamese, Deepak and Satish Kalpoe. The three were jailed early on in the investigation but later released after a judge ruled there was not enough evidence to hold them.

Her parents as well as the attorneys of the three have told the AP they never heard of ‘G.V.C.’ until his arrest this weekend. –
