2 Guyanese stowaways found in truck at bridge
A gamma-imaging device at the Peace Bridge led to the arrests of two Guyanese nationals who were stowaways in a commercial truck loaded with Styrofoam trays and hardware for windows.

Bramhadaut Prashad and Debra Appadu, whose ages were not released, were arrested early Wednesday morning by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers, authorities said.

Officers made a close inspection of the cargo after the truck was run through a device that uses gamma ray technology to look for unusual shapes among the freight, said Kevin Corsaro, a spokesman for the agency.

The truck was entering the United States from Canada about 12:30 a.m. Truck driver Mootilan Ramphal, a landed immigrant from Canada, was charged with smuggling illegal aliens. The two Guyanese nationals were charged with illegal entry and conspiracy.
