Five charged with trafficking in persons,
indecent assault

-three remanded, arrest warrants issued for two

Five people who allegedly turned a runaway 12-year-old girl into a sex slave were slapped with a series of charges this week, but only three of the accused appeared in court. Arrest warrants have been issued for the missing two.

Michael Joseph, called ‘Shem', of Hand-en-Veldt, Mahaica, his 19-year-old reputed wife, Tinelle Edwards, John Wills, 23, of Helena, Mahaica, Shemroy Marks and Treon Rutherford have been charged with trafficking in persons, buggery, indecent assault and carnal knowledge.

Joseph, Edwards and Wills were remanded to prison after appearing in the Mahaica Magistrate's Court.

However, arrests warrants were issued for Marks and Rutherford .

The accused were arrested last week after police received reports that a 12-year-old girl, who had run away from home, was granting sexual favours for money.

The acts were allegedly committed by a group of men, who reportedly paid a woman to have sex with the child, who had run away from home since January.

It is alleged that a relative eventually saw the girl at Mahaica and took her to the police.
