Look out for bogus standards bureau inspector

Stabroek News

A man has been posing as an inspector of the Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS) and he has been attempting to collect revenue and also requesting bribes from businesses.

The GNBS in a press release yesterday called on vendors, retailers and owners of shops to be on the lookout for this impostor who does not possess a valid identification card to support his claims of being a GNBS inspector. Moreover, persons with information relevant to this matter can visit the Bureau at the National Exhibition Site, Sophia, or call on telephone numbers 225-6226, 227-7889 or 227-7890 to make reports.

According to reports, the bogus inspector visited a business place at Ogle, East Coast Demerara yesterday and he was riding a maroon scooter bearing licence number CE 2363.

He did not have a valid identification card as a GNBS inspector, and reportedly said that he had previously worked with the Licence Revenue Department and recently began working with the Bureau of Standards.

The Bureau stated that all inspectors have valid identification cards and conduct field activities using GNBS vehicles.

In order to avoid being duped by this impostor, the Bureau has advised that persons demand to see identification cards first before agreeing to have services done, request valid receipts for all transactions, and if in doubt they should call the GNBS. Its telephone numbers are 227-7841, 227-7890, 225-6226, 225-9013 and 227-7889.
